Jarrod Gravison

Editor & Data Lead, Gravison Group

Jarrod Gravison is the editor and data lead at HardWaterHQ. He built and maintains the site's water-hardness and water-quality dataset, covering 685 US and Canadian cities.

What he does here

Jarrod is responsible for how HardWaterHQ's data is gathered, verified, and published. That means:

  • Compiling hardness and contaminant figures from primary municipal water-quality reports (Consumer Confidence Reports / Annual Water Quality Reports).
  • Cross-checking against USGS hardness data, the EWG Tap Water Database, and — for Canadian cities — provincial datasets and Health Canada guidelines.
  • Enforcing the site's sourcing standard: no number ships without a citable primary source, and a wrong number is treated as worse than no number.
  • Writing the editorial and methodology that explain what the numbers mean in plain English.

How the data is held to a standard

HardWaterHQ publishes utility-reported hardness wherever a primary source exists, and marks any value that is computed (from calcium and magnesium) rather than directly measured. U.S. contaminant figures are compared against EPA Maximum Contaminant Levels; Canadian figures against Health Canada Maximum Acceptable Concentrations. The full sourcing approach is documented on the about & methodology page and the sources page.
